Update! January 26th 2010.

Hi All!

I just thought I would update my blog to keep everyone that's following me in the loop! Since my first blog a couple of weeks ago, lots of things have happened, some good, some not so good.

Let's start with the not-so-great news first.
I have been in contact with quite a few organizations about traveling with them to Haiti in the month of February and each one of them has been so amazing at getting back to me and letting me know what is going on but, and there is a huge but, they are NOT taking any teams right now who do not have medical or construction skills. Which, by the way, isn't me!

Some good news though, they have all put me on their list of other volunteers and have promised to get back to me as soon as their IS a team going!

Some more GREAT news is that fundraising is in full swing. Although I don't have too much raised yet, I have lots of people who are very interested in giving and are waiting until I have the whole trip confirmed which is totally understandable!

I also have an amazing friend who attends Wilfred Laurier University and proposed the idea of having some fundraisers for Haiti at her residence. Her friends have jumped on board this project and have committed to giving me all the proceeds for my trip! They kicked off last night by posting statistics about what is going on in the country right now all over their residence!

So right now, I am still playing the waiting game. But I am OK with that and look forward to getting the call!

If anybody is interested in donating you can put any donations into an envelope marked Heather Kenny : Haiti at the front desk of Southridge Community Church located at 201 Glenridge Ave.

Thank you everyone for your continued support and prayers :)
Love and Blessings,
Heather-Louise

And the adventure begins-Jan 14 2010.

Hi Guys,
So as we all know, on Tuesday January 12th, a terrible earthquake with a magnitude of 7 hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The death toll is at 100,000 right now and is still increasing. The country is in desperate need of help, whether it be financial or physical. At this time, the country is not letting anybody other than emergency personnel in but I am hoping to go over there and volunteer my time to help the people of Haiti. I have already been in touch with the Red Cross and was told that it could be up to a month before a group is sent there. I am currently looking for an organization to go with, the Red Cross being my number one choice.

While God has opened up a door for me to develop a greater heart of compassion for His people around the world, the exciting part is that you will be able to share in this compassion in several ways. First, you can help pray for me. I will need prayers that God will prepare me for my visit and bless my efforts as I minister to and help the people of Haiti. I will also need prayers that my financial needs will be met. Right now, I will need to pay for a flight to Haiti which is around $600 which is a bit of a challenge!

Another way that you can be involved is to help provide that financial support. If you would like to donate you can contact me at 905-397-3091 or e-mail me at:

heather-louise-kenny@hotmail.com

Whether you feel led to contribute financially, through prayer, or both, all of your support is appreciated.I look forward to doing God's work in Haiti and letting you know all about how God has worked through me.

Thank you all so much!
Blessings,
Heather-Louise Kenny
